There are a few people whose mark on your lives is an indelible one. The late Vernon Slate, from Gouldbusk, Texas was one such individual.
Vernon was a tall and stout man, with the strength of most any two good men I know, yet he had the disposition of a lamb. He loved God first, his family and his church all of his life.
I had the privilege of becoming close friends with Vernon’s son and daughter many years ago in Bible College. After school, I had the privilege of being Vernon’s pastor for a time in Texas. I learned more from him in a short time about the important things in life than I had to date. His dedication, loyalty and sincere love and admiration for God and Family was second-to-none. If there was ever a person that I met who was a “builder of people,” it was Vernon Slate.
We’re proud to dedicate this memorial building fund to the memory of an incredibly special man. A man who was a builder, a hard worker and a man who loved God, his family, his church family and his earthly family, including many of us who were “extended family.”
My personal prayer is that I can be just a fraction of the man that Vernon Slate exemplified before me as I endeavor to serve my Lord Jesus Christ to the best of my ability.
We pray that God will use the faithful example Vernon Slate set before us to remind us why we build, who it is that we serve and that God would help us to keep our eyes always on our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ so long as we shall live and breathe.
It is my sincere belief that if Vernon were alive today, he would be proud to ask you to give so that Joy Christian Radio can continue its mission of sharing the Hope of the Gospel to the world.
Dedications to the Vernon Slate Memorial Building Fund are tax deductible, and are used in the furtherance of the up-building of God’s Kingdom through the ministry of Joy Christian Radio.
